Sim Settelments of Chelyabinsk region

Sim is situated on the western slope of the South Urals, on the river Sim, after which the city and the plant were named, 9 km away from the railway station Simskaya, 340 km to the west from Chelyabinsk. It is the former center of the Simski mountain district; today it is the city in the Asha region.

The city appeared in 1759 due to the construction of iron-producing plant. During the Peasant War under the leadership of Emel'yan Pugachev (1773-75) the plant was destroyed and later, in 1778, reconstructed. In 1893 the production by means of open-hearth method began on the Sim plant.
