The city was founded as a result of the construction of Verhne- and Nizhnekyshtymski cast-iron and iron-producing plants. It is named after the river Kyshtym. Sights Regional museum The so called White House is the former residence of the Kyshtym plant owners (first half of the 19th cent.) and two churches (18th and 19th centuries). The branch of City's economy In 1755 Nikita Demidov founded two plants on the river Kyshtymka: iron-cast and iron-producing. Products from these plants with the Demidov trade mark "Russian Sable" were noted for high quality and became famous all over the world. Today this tradition is maintained by the leaders of Russian non-ferrous metallurgy, specialists of the Kyshtym copper-electrolytic plant. The leading branches of industry are power industry, non-ferrous metallurgy, machine-building, metal-working, food industry, industry of building materials. In 2001 industry comprised 95,5%, agriculture – 0,1%, transport and communications – 0,4%, trade and public catering – 0,2% in the structure of production. Plants: copper-electrolytic, machine building, abrasive materials plant, radio plant, Taigin graphite-vermiculite association, kaolin-ceramic and ore mining and processing enterprises. Dairy and meat farming, poultry keeping prevail in agriculture. Potato, vegetable, fruit and berry growing is developed. |
